German Pasta Salad Recipe

250 gram ( ½ pound) elbow or spiral pasta
200 gram (7 oz) of ham (optional for vegetarians)
150 gram (5 oz) of Gouda/Emmentaler or any other mild cheese (not the processed stuff)
150 gram (5 oz) gherkins
½ apple
1 bunch parsley
1 bunch dill
2-3 spoons mayonnaise (I prefer miracle whip)
2-3 spoons yoghurt
2-3 spoons of white wine vinegar
pepper
salt

1. Cook pasta in boiling salt water in an open pot (cooking time varies and is on the box, but try them once in while so they don't get too soft and you'll have them 'al dente' - firm to the bite). Drain them, cool them off with cold water and drain them well.

2. While the pasta boils, chop ham, gherkins, apple into tiny dices and grate the cheese (not too thin). Wash herbs and chop as well.

3. Mix mayonnaise with the yoghurt and the vinegar. Add salt and vinegar to taste and add the oil as last.

4. Mix the pasta with the dressing and let it stand for a while so the salad can cool down.

5. Taste after it cooled down and add salt, pepper, and vinegar to taste.
